CARICC Information and Analytical Unit took part in a special online event on 27 June 2024 on the sidelines of the OSCE Annual Conference on "Current Challenges for the OSCE Region with regard to Continuing Drug Threat from Afghanistan".

The event brought together representatives of the CSTO, SCO, CIS and UNODC, as well as representatives of the OSCE field missions in Central Asia and field experts from participating countries.

The event was aimed at discussing possible steps to address drug challenges emerging from the territory of Afghanistan, as well as ways to build capacity of law enforcement and security services.

Advisor/Head of CARICC IAP in his speech informed participants about current drug situation in the territory of CARICC Member States.

At the end of the event all participants emphasized that the problem of drug trafficking remains a serious threat to global and regional stability. Trafficking of opiates and synthetic drugs from the territory of Afghanistan is a significant challenge for the OSCE area and requires further enhanced interaction and cooperation in this area among law enforcement and security structures in the region as well as international partners.
