Meeting between representatives of CARICC and Mangistau Regional Department of Border Service of National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan

A working meeting between representatives of CARICC and the Border Service Department for Mangistau Region of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan which serves as Regional Directorate for State Border Protection in the Caspian Sea took place in Almaty on 31 July 2026.

During the meeting parties exchanged information and assessments of current drug situation in the Mangistau region, focusing particularly on recent trends in illicit drug trafficking, including use of maritime routes and waters of the Caspian Sea for smuggling drugs.

Participants discussed topical issues related to strengthening cooperation between CARICC and the Border Service, improving information exchange, developing analytical support and coordinating joint measures to identify, counter and document activities of transnational criminal groups involved in organizing maritime drug trafficking routes.

Special attention was given to prospects for expanding practical cooperation within CARICC framework, including participation in international operations, exchange of analytical information, organization of joint expert events and development of additional measures to combat illicit drug trafficking in the Caspian direction.

The meeting took place in a constructive and productive atmosphere and reaffirmed parties’ mutual interest in further strengthening cooperation to enhance effectiveness of efforts to combat transnational drug crime and promote regional security.
