On the 30th of October 2017, as part of the visit of CARICC to Astana to attend the 10th Review Meeting of the Parties to the Memorandum of Understanding on Regional Cooperation in Drug Control, a meeting was held between Grigory Pustovitov, Director of CARICC, and Karim Masimov, Chairperson of the Committee for National Security of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, the parties noted the need to enhance interaction in the field of countering illicit drug trafficking and disrupting economic foundations of transnational drug-related crime.
Director of CARICC presented deliverables of practical development of the Center in the field of counteraction to various types of threats to regional security and expressed concern about the growing risks of combining transnational drug-related crime with other regional and international threats, such as international terrorism and violent extremism.
At the end of the meeting, Director of CARICC briefed Chairperson of the Committee for National Security of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the prospects for expanding the geography of the Center.
