CARICC participation in UN and SCO side event on early warning systems for new synthetic drugs

CARICC delegation led by Director M. Khamidov attended a side event on "UN and SCO: Development of Regional and National Early Warning System (EWS) for New Synthetic Drugs and New Psychoactive Substances (NPS)" organized by the SCO Secretariat in cooperation with the Government of Kyrgyzstan.

Representatives of SCO member states delegations addressed the event, emphasizing importance of strengthening regional cooperation in combating distribution of synthetic drugs and new psychoactive substances.

Speakers noted that an important component of an effective response to new drug threats is development of integrated regional and national early warning systems that enable timely detection of new types of synthetic drugs, track trends in distribution, and ensure rapid exchange of analytical information, scientific data and operational intelligence between competent authorities of countries in the region.

Particular consideration was given to expanding practical cooperation, introducing modern digital and analytical tools for monitoring drug market, and intensifying interaction between international and regional agencies responsible for drug situation analysis and forecasting.
