On March 30, 2016, Almaty hosted the regular meeting of the Council of National Coordinators (CNC) of CARICC member states. The meeting was attended by representatives of the competent authorities of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. On March 29, 2016, a meeting was held in CARICC with B. Zhunusov, CARICC Director and Petko Draganov, Special Representative of the UN Secretary General/Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia, and Ms. Bakhyt Abdildina, Representative of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Kazakhstan.
During the meeting the parties briefed each other on the goals and challenges facing by two organizations. The parties articulated mutual opinion on the need of bilateral cooperation in the context of the review of possible financing of extremist and terrorist activities as a result of drug trafficking, and other issues. An agreement has been reached in terms of cooperation in a complementary manner. Following the meeting, the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia has been included in the mailing list of recipients of CARICC information products of review and reference nature.

The 59th session of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs was held from 14 to 22 March 2016 in Vienna (Austria). This event was attended Mr. B. Zhunusov, CARICC Director, and A. Sabyrbekov, senior analyst of the Center.
During the session, a side event was held, where the presentation of CARICC was delivered in the context of the possible mechanisms for regional exchange of information in combating transnational drug-related crime. This event was chaired by CARICC Director. Mr. B. Zhunusov, Senior Coordinator of the UNODC Project on CARICC Establishment, Mr. Naveed Riaz, and the head of the UNODC Regional Section for Europe, West and Central Asia, Mr. Alexander Schmidt.

On the 14th of March 2016, CARICC hosted a meeting with Mr. Peter Burian, the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, and Mrs. Hanna Vuoko, his Advisor on Political Affairs.
The main purpose of the meeting was to familiarize with the Centre’s activities, and to discuss the issues of cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking in Central Asia. During the meeting the parties exchanged views on the prospects of cooperation between CARICC and EU within the framework of existing EU programs in the field of the fight against drugs. The EU Special Representative for Central Asia expressed interest in supporting and strengthening cooperation with CARICC.

On February 29, 2016, CARICC hosted an operational meeting involving the Center’s staff and its liaison officers with liaison officers of observer states with CARICC.
